Gustave E. Carlson Jr.
It is with sorrow and profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Gus Carlson, who departed this world on Monday, 27 October in St. Charles, Missouri at the age of 98. Gus was born in Oak Park, Illinois and grew up in Riverside, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave E. Carlson and Marie C. Brostom, both of which were immigrants from Sweden, his son, Neal E. Carlson, Wentzville, Missouri, and grandson, Tyler Carlson, Wentzville, Missouri.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 72 years, Thelma M. Carlson; children, Dale Carlson and his wife Rebecca, Olympia, Washington; Brian Carlson and his wife Angela, Kirkwood, Missouri and four grandchildren; Eric Carlson and his wife Tracy, Olympia, Washington; Lindsay Carlson Zeiter and husband Teddy, Columbia, Missouri; Sloane Carlson Wefelmeyer and husband, Michael, Kirkwood, Missouri; Reis Carlson, Kansas City, Missouri and six great grandchildren.
Gus was a veteran of the US Navy, who served at the end of World War II. He had a long career as a Mechanical Designer working for Sverdrup & Parcel for many years.
He loved traveling with his wife, fishing on the Mississippi River, and creating a fabulous model train layout. He was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for Troop 186 in Florissant, Missouri and had earned the Eagle Scout badge and led all three of his sons to do the same.
He was deeply proud of his family and created endless memories that will be treasured forever. He was a beloved father and grandfather, and friend to many.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, 5 November at 11 am followed by a funeral service at 12 pm at the Hutchens-Stygar funeral home in St. Charles, Missouri. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Florissant, Missouri.
