Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stanley Funeral Home & Crematory - Wrightsville on Nov. 6, 2025.
Born November 8, 1952, in Sandersville, Georgia, Gwen grew up on her family's farm outside of
Wrightsville, Georgia and graduated from Johnson County High School.
She dedicated 30 years of her life to her country as a proud civil servant. Her career began supporting medical clinics at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She later held various vital roles within the financial teams for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), serving in the Savannah District, the Jacksonville District, and the Europe District in Wiesbaden, Germany.
She loved to travel, explored Europe while living abroad, had a deep affection for Germany and never turned down an opportunity to visit. She also enjoyed the ocean and mountains, and, most importantly, traveling to visit her family for the holidays. She had a creative spirit and a passion for woodworking, creating, crafting and painting beautiful pieces that she often gave to lift the spirits of others. In retirement, she delighted in spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
She leaves behind her loving daughters, Nike Sheppard Murray of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Christina Lokey Hoenig (Andrew) of Marietta, Georgia, whom she treasured; and her cherished grandchildren McKenna Rose Murray, Grace Elyn Murray (Nike) and Christopher Grant Hoenig and Madison Nicole Hoenig (Christi), who brought endless joy to her life, and is survived by her sister, Brenda F. Tomlinson of Savannah, Georgia, and first husband, C. David Sheppard of Cartersville, Georgia. She also leaves behind her faithful and beloved Chihuahua companion, Little Girl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Etheridge W. Lokey; parents, Herschel Newton Frost Jr. and Eunice Smith Frost; and her brothers Charles Eugene Frost and Herschel Newton Frost III, with whom she is now reunited in heaven.
A graveside memorial service will be held in her honor on what would have been her 73rd birthday at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at West View Cemetery in
Wrightsville, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Gwen's family asks that you simply "pay it forward."
One Christmas when Gwen had very little, a dear colleague quietly gave her the means to make the holidays bright when she needed it most. She never forgot that kindness and spent the years that followed passing it on in her own small and special ways - sometimes by paying for a stranger's meal, other times through a simple act of compassion and kindness.
In her memory, please find a way - big or small - to make someone else's day a little brighter.
