Gwen (Morgan) Schmidtmann, 68, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born on August 6, 1956 to Ralph and Madalyn (Sponable) Morgan. She was a lifelong resident of Phoenix, NY and a 1974 graduate of Phoenix Central Schools.
Gwen was employed as a main office secretary by the Phoenix Central School District for 20 years. She retired in June of 2021.
Gwen was an active and dedicated member of the Enterprise Fire Company #1 and Auxiliary for 50 years. She enjoyed helping the community through her involvement with the fire department. That was a Morgan family tradition.
Gwen served on the Board of Directors for the Great Northern Artists Collaborative (GNAC). One of her favorite things in life was watching her son Adam in his theatrical performances. She never missed a show!
Gwen cherished time spent with family and friends. She especially loved going to Florida to spend time with her Florida family. She thoroughly adored being an Auntie to Josiah and was looking forward to also being an awesome Auntie to Isaiah. She enjoyed them on FaceTime when she couldn't be with them.
When Gwen was not spending time with family and friends or volunteering, her favorite things to do were listening to the 70s on 7, watching old TV shows, and playing bingo!
Gwen will be dearly missed and will be remembered as a generous and caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, Auntie, cousin, niece and friend.
Gwen is survived by her husband of 39 years, Terry, son Adam of Phoenix, sister Margo (Morgan) Storie of Cape Coral, FL, niece Lyndsay (Bryan) Sutton and great nephews Josiah and Isaiah all of Cape Coral, FL., brother-in-laws Erich and Kurt Schmidtmann. She is also survived by several cousins and aunts.
Gwen was predeceased by her father Ralph (2010), mother Madalyn (2016), brother Steve (2011) and brother-in-law Steve Storie (2019).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Gwen's memory be made to the Enterprise Fire Company #1, 457 Main St., Phoenix, NY 13135, or the Great Northern Artists Collaborative (GNAC), 8396 Morgan Road, Clay, NY 13041 (online at GreatNorthernArts.com).
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Phoenix Fire Station, 457 Main St., Phoenix, NY, on Thursday, December 5, 2024. There will be a Meet and Greet for family and friends from 4 to 6 PM immediately followed by a service with fire department honors. Everyone is then invited to join the family for a reception at the fire hall.
