Gyla-ann Evans Obituary
Gyla-ann was a lifelong resident of Nelsonville. She graduated from Nelsonville High School in 1966 and went on to work as a pharmacy assistant for many years. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital, Foster's Pharmacy, and retired from Kroger. Gyla-ann was a member of Nelsonville Elks Lodge #543 for 21 years. She was an avid fan of Ohio State and Cincinnati Reds, and was very active; she enjoyed participating in softball and bowling leagues, among other sports. Gyla-ann also enjoyed being a part of community choirs over the years. Above all, family was the most important part of Gyla-ann's life.
Gyla-ann is survived by her sister, Royal Sue (Bill) Newman; brother, Phillip Evans; nieces, Amy (Grant) Volquardsen, Erica Newman, and Ingrid Evans Tugwell; nephews, Doug (Sonja) Newman and Phillip Travis Evans; four great-nieces and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Nadine Evans.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 12, 2025, at the Souers Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville, with Micah Covert officiating. Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Cremation will take place and Gyla-ann's ashes will later be interred near her parents at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gyla-ann to the World Wildlife Fund, honoring her love of animals.
