Leaf Cremation of Georgia - AcworthHillard Lamar Cole, 86, a longtime resident of Cashiers, North Carolina—a place he truly loved—and later of Woodstock, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on March 6, 1939, in LaGrange, Georgia, Lamar was the youngest of four children born to Clarence and Odell Cole. He graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Marketing and began his career in international sales before finding his true passion—running small businesses, including a golf driving range, car wash, and oil change.
Lamar was known for his love of life, and a unique sense of humor that could brighten anybody's day. He found the best part of his life making others feel good about themselves and the world around them. Lamar was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, North Carolina. There, he served with dedication and formed many of his most cherished, lasting friendships.
Lamar’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Liz Cole; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Brian Perkins; and his beloved granddaughter, Ansley Perkins, who held a very special place in his heart. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Morgan Cole; his sisters, Margie Tomlinson and Carol Baxter; and his sister-in-law, Betty Cole.
After retiring and moving to Cashiers, Lamar spent much of his time giving back, supporting organizations like Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Relay for Life.
A memorial service to celebrate Lamar’s life will be held on May 9th at 2pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cashiers, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lamar's memory to the Conkle-Rowe College Scholarship Fund (c/o Church of the Good Shepherd) or the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, friends, and neighbors who provided comfort and support during Lamar’s final days.
