Hailey Ann Wertz, of South Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2024, at the tender age of 22.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Hailey will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
Born in Sioux City on March 10, 2002, the daughter of Matt and Mellissa (DeWolf) Wertz, Hailey was a shining light in the lives of those around her.
Hailey graduated from South Sioux City High School in 2020. She found joy in simple pleasures like reading, watching movies, especially Disney classics, and engaging in lively game nights with her family. Her fondness for her cat, Willow, and her love for babies and animals were a testament to her warm and caring heart, and she loved being a caregiver to her nephew.
Hailey proudly participated in the Wheelchair Sports Camp for seven years and was involved in the Miracle League Baseball Program, touching the lives of many through her dedication and enthusiasm.
Hailey's kindness and compassion extended beyond her role as a caregiver, earning her the title of a beloved sister, best friend, and a great listener. Her smile had a magical quality to it, capable of lighting up any room she entered.
Hailey leaves behind her grieving parents, Matt Wertz and Mellissa Wertz; her sisters, Emiley and Allie Wertz, and Hailey Munoz all of South Sioux City; her grandparents, Thomas and Janice Wertz, and Kris and Tim DeWolf; her cherished nephew, Zakkai Munoz; her aunts and uncles, Jeremiah (Andi) DeWolf, Justin (Meagan) DeWolf, Katie Wertz, and Ben Wertz; along with her cousins, Jaysiene, Alexa, Olivia, and Lily DeWolf.
In the wake of Hailey's untimely departure, those who knew her will remember her for her kind spirit, loving nature, and the lasting impact she had on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. She will be deeply missed. May her memory be a source of comfort and solace during this time of sorrow.
