Hal Wayne Engstrom
Hal "Pa" Engstrom, 73, passed away at Butte Saint James Hospital on November 17, 2025.
Hal was born on October 31, 1952, in Mohall, North Dakota, to Cecelia and Milton Engstrom and grew up in that area with his brother and three sisters.
In his early years, Hal worked on the service rigs in North Dakota, then went on to work at Page Brothers in Mohall. He met his future wife of forty-two years, Jennifer Kildare, at the bar in Antler, North Dakota, in 1979. Jennifer had two young children from a previous marriage, J.J. and Thomas, whom Hal gladly accepted as his own. In 1983, Hal, Jennifer, and the kids moved to Dillon, Montana. Hal married Jennifer on June 1st that same year.
Gaining employment first at Rolandson Equipment in 1983, Hal continued working as a diesel mechanic for forty-two years, working also at Southmont and Frontline Ag before retiring in July of 2022.
Although retired, Hal was always willing to help out on mechanic jobs for anyone who asked, lending out his knowledge and expertise in the field.
Hal loved his five dogs (Peanut, Patches, Sam, Oreo, and Bashful), a cold beer, grilling, and shooting the breeze with everyone he knew. And, according to Pa, "It only costs a buck 2.98."
Hal is survived by his wife, Jennifer, daughter J.J., son Thomas, five grandkids, four great-grandkids, his brother Larry, and his sisters, Bunny, Cheryl, and Carol and all their spouses and extended family.
As per his wishes there will be no formal funeral, however there will be a public viewing on Saturday November 29 at 1 :45 at Brundage Funeral Home 300 S. Atlantic St., Dillon. MT.
