Hal Reynolds Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Colorado Springs on Dec. 4, 2025.
Hal Andrew Reynolds, consummate world traveler and US Navy veteran, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 88.

He was born to Mack and Pauline Reynolds in Oxnard, California. He spent his youth living in Oxnard and Redlands, California with his brother, Craig and sister, Cara. They all graduated from Redlands High School. Hal continued the family tradition of attending the University of Southern California. Drafted into the military, he enlisted in the Navy and was a member of NROTC. He graduated with a BS in insurance and was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy.

He served aboard USS Aja x (AR-6) and USS Requisite (AGS-18), and was stationed in Denmark and France. He was introduced to Asia through his extended family members who were missionaries in Japan and China. Following his active-duty naval service, he remained in Tokyo, Japan where he opened an insurance company. He hired an American woman, Karen Jacobs, whom he met at church to assist him with his new business. They were married at Tokyo Union Church, in April 1966.

Hal then joined Johnson & Higgins, an insurance brokerage that had offices around the world. For over 30 years, he worked from their Tokyo, New York, São Paolo, Brazil, and Bogota, Colombia offices. He retired from the Naval Reserves in 1978, after nearly 23 years of active-duty and reserve service.

Hal was an avid collector of Portuguese colonial stamps, a hobby he began while living in Japan. He was involved in several philatelic projects and organizations in London and Lisbon, Portugal.

Upon retirement, Hal continued to engage with his international stamp friends, assisted Karen with her travel agency, and helped maintain the grounds of their local church.

He is survived by two daughters, Kristin (Terry) and Andrea; three grandchildren, Katherine (Caleb), Julia, and Timothy; one great-granddaughter, Leighann; brother Craig (Patty), sister Cara (Tom), brother-in-law Ken, sister-in-law Lynn and nieces/nephews Dana, Julie, Adam, Rebecca, John, and Elisabeth. His wife, Karen, predeceased him in 2014.

Interment at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery (10545 Drennan Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80925) will take place at Jan. 6, 2026 on 1pm. All are welcome and are asked to arrive 30 min. prior at the cemetery entrance. In lieu of flowers, please support the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org). A gathering will take place immediately following the ceremony at Panera Bread (3120 New Center Point, Colorado Springs).
