Halvor Peter Hansen, our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away April 24, 2023, at the age of 95. Hal passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born August 2, 1927, in Smithfield, Cache, Utah, the second son of Leslie and Salome Toolson Hansen. Hal married his beautiful and eternal companion, Colleen Noble, June 6, 1949, in the Logan Utah Temple.
At the age of 27, he was awarded his PhD. from the University of Wisconsin. He taught at the University of Colorado, Montana State University, and the University of the Pacific, Stockton, California. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Idaho and BYU Hawaii. After 35 years of teaching at UOP, he retired as Professor Emeritus.
Because of his love for teaching, he taught early morning seminary for over 12 years in California. He also served as a gospel doctrine teacher for many years, in many different wards, in the church that he loved. He served in numerous leadership positions including a bishop and a counselor in a stake presidency.
He and his wife, Colleen, served three missions together for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were called as the first missionaries to serve in Pakistan. During their mission they also served in Singapore and Ipoh, Malaysia, where Hal served as branch president. They later served in the Philippines as the Area Welfare agents for that country. On their last mission, they were Church-service missionaries at the Ensign College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
His five children survive him: Valerie, Marcia, Halvor Teague (Joni), Kevin Craig, and Kent Clyde (Tammy). Hal was proud of each of his 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He encouraged each of them to get an education and learn as much as they could. Colleen, his wife of 65 years, his parents, and his two brothers, Terrance Leslie and (Mick) Richard Clair, have preceded him in death.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29, at the Smithfield City Cemetery, Smithfield, Utah.
