In Loving Memory of Hao Ta
Born in Vietnam on May 5th, 1941, Hao Ta began his journey through life. Hao was the youngest son of Muoi Ly and An Ta from Guangdong Province, China. And just like Hao's father, he was very hard-working and astute. With that mindset, he raised his five children to follow his father's legacy of being punctual, driven, and individually successful.
Hao married his wife, Mai Vuong when he was 23 and together, they had 5 children. Hao and his wife were greatly respected businessman for wine imported and he served 8 years as a navy in Vietnam. At the end of the Vietnam War when their city of Saigon was taken over by communist that Hao life journey changed forever. With the rule of communist seizing his assets, money and constant pressuring the way of life, Hao decided to escape Vietnam to provide a promising future for himself and his family. Unfortunately, in his attempt escape, he was caught and sent to prison for 2 years. After releasing from prison, he made another great escape. To make his escape possible, he and his wife decide to escape separately. Hao with 3 children (Joan, Linda & David) escape to Macau and Mai with 2 children (Jane & Richie) escape to Malaysia. Mai was accepted into the U.S where his entire family was able to reunite in 1980 in the city of San Bernardino, CA and eventually moved to Tulsa, OK in summer of 1983.
When Hao arrived in Tulsa, he used his Vietnam college degree as a gifted and talent Chinese watercolor painter to sell his art. After a while, he knew the career wouldn't pay enough to raise his family. So, he started looking for work as a cook in restaurants. Although Hao struggled to learn English, he stuck to his family roots by working hard and never giving up until he had enough money to start his own restaurant by the name of Lai Lai in the city of Sapulpa. Because of his hard work and determination along with the support of his wife and children, his business started to bloom. After many years of hard work Hao decided that he had paid his dues and that he would retire, Hao stopped working at the age of 68 and handed his business over to his children.
Just like Hao's father, he taught and raised his children with discipline and provided them with invaluable tools that impact every single member of the Ta family today. Through all of the years of his hard work, he managed to prioritize quality time with his family and do things he enjoyed the most like painting. Often you could find him enjoying the sounds of nature as he would paint and garden in his backyard. There was no one else like him that could find beauty in the simplest of things. Hao was self-taught and self-reliant, he was a smart entrepreneur businessman, a talented painter and a great cook. People who knew Hao earned his respect because of his accomplishment and responsibilities to the very end. Hao was a very kind man, he was always willing to offer anyone help, with a smile, and never expected anything in return.
After a last short couple of years, Hao's health started to decline because of his dementia, and his body slowly faded away because of trauma. He passed away peacefully in Saint Francis hospital hospice in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 08, 2022. In his last moments, Hao had his last chance to say goodbye to his wonderful, faithful wife of 60 years, his children, grandchildren, and his surviving brother. Hao left behind his wife Mai Vuong, his 5 children, and countless grandchildren. No words can truly express the greatness and honor Hao possessed but his legacy will live on forever through everyone he's touched.
Rest in peace Mr. Hao Ta, you will be missed by so many people who adore you!
