Harlan Raab Obituary

Harlan Raab

November 2, 1948 - September 21, 2025

Funeral liturgy service for Harlan Wayne Raab will be 11:00 a.m. MT, Friday, September 26, 2025 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery in Lefor. Visitation for Harlan will be 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2025, with rosary and vigil at 6 p.m. Harlan Wayne Raab, a beloved father, son, and brother, passed away on September 21, 2025, in Gillette, Wyoming, surrounded by his family. Harlan was born on November 2, 1948, to Pete and Rose Raab in Dickinson, North Dakota. He was raised on a farm southeast of Dickinson as the second oldest of eight children. He helped with the farm until 1969, when he entered the U.S. Army, proudly serving until his discharge in 1971. In 1972, Harlan married Verlene Heck, and together they welcomed four children. They later divorced in 1995. Throughout his life, Harlan worked in a variety of jobs, but his passion and expertise were in the flooring and paint business. He retired in 2016 after 24 dedicated years at Roger Frye's Paint and Supply Store in Rapid City, South Dakota. Even in retirement, he enjoyed working at several liquor stores, where he found joy in visiting with customers. Harlan was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, participating in multiple leagues over the years, and was known for his quick wit and sense of humor among teammates. A proud member of both the Elks and the Eagles, he gave his time and talents to various events and causes. He especially enjoyed dining at Millstone in Rapid City, where the staff welcomed him by name. Above all, Harlan's greatest joy was his family. He cherished watching his children and grandchildren grow, always offering love, support, and guidance. He created countless memories at family gatherings, bringing laughter, warmth, and a fierce game of Pinochle. His spirit, humor, and presence will be deeply missed. Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Rose Raab; three brothers, Marvin, Richard, and Melvin Raab; and his granddaughter, Madalynn Raab. He is survived by his six children, Cory (Brandi) Raab of Sioux Falls, SD, Brad (Chelsea) Raab of Williston, ND, Kyle (Beth) Raab of Gillette, WY, Tina (Dave Engebretson) Raab of Fargo, ND, AJ (Kylee) Koller of Rapid City, SD, and Travis Koller of Rapid City, SD; 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
