Mr. Harley Hughes Hodges, age 87, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. He was born September 21, 1938, in Surry County to the late Lonzie Vance Hodges and the late Minnie Edna Bennett Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Don Hodges, and his brother, Dewey Hodges.
Left to cherish is memories are his loving wife, Maxine C. Hodges; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Phil Atkins; a daughter-in-law, Jean Poplin, and her husband Johnny; grandchildren, Magan Vogler (Josh), Katelin Valdez (Renee), Dylan Atkins (Sarah), and Damon Atkins (Lily); great grandchildren, Avayah Wall, Hadley Vogler, Silas Vogler, Luca Valdez, Maizey Vogler, Lyla Atkins, and Fisher Atkins; and a special and devoted friend, Don Martin.
Mr. Hodges was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a member of Central View Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 33 years, among many other positions. He also was on the board of the Surry Central Fire Department, worked at Proctor Silex, was an avid hobbyist with his collection of tractors, trains and airplanes, but mostly he was known for his sense of humor and love of life. Visitation will be Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 12:30-2:00 PM, at Central View Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mr. Hodges will begin at 2:00 PM, in the church, with Pastor Bill Faw and Pastor Michael Gentry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of Central Continuing Care for the kind and compassionate care given to Harley. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Central View Baptist Church, 1088 White Dirt Road, Dobson NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Hodges family.
