Harmon "Chief" Herschel Elam, 83 of Osyka, MS passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was born Thursday, January 8, 1942 in Tylertown, MS .
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, 412 Beulah Ave., Tylertown, MS, from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM with Bro. Winston Fortenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Holmes Family Cemetery in Osyka, MS. Hartman Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Elam enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He worked as a teamster for Local 891 for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel Lafayett Elam; mother, Lela Nettie Hurst Elam; brothers, Olan Elam, Newt Ira Elam, and Henry Otis Elam; sisters, Opal Elam Nuyianes, Ora Elam Dupuy, Ola Elam Brock, and Nola Elam Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Barnes Elam; sons, Lance Elam (Laci) and Chance Elam; grandchildren, Madelyn Elam, Isabella Rose Elam, and Matthew Elam; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Gill, Ryan Holmes, Joey Holmes, Randy Holmes, Jason Bullock, and Brad Loup.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Holmes and Johnny Holmes.
