My father became the Pastor at Veale Creek and Harold used to take our family on hikes and show us different things in nature that we didn´t know. It was an adventure and gave us memories we will always cherish. Thank you Harold! You will be greatly missed!

My first memory of Uncle Harold was the story he told about taking a group into a cave where apparently they heard a noise in the dark that turned out to be a black panther. We always had the best Christmas dinners at Harold and Mom Allison´s house! Wonderful memories. Harold was always full of good stories to about Indiana. He was a a humble man with an extraordinary wealth of knowledge. RIP Uncle Harold.

It was always a pleasure to be with Harold at TNC Board meetings. We have two special memories of those times. One was when he led a trip to see 1000 Acre Woods which he had helped preserve. He was a gracious host and the woods that day was incredible. The second was when he took us and our three quite young children on a fossil hunting trip in southern Indiana. The kids ran around picking up nodules, Harold had a hammer to open them, and inside were tiny ferns, leaves, all sorts of surprises. He will be much missed by everyone who knew him.

I served for many years on the Board of Trustees of The Nature Conservancy in Indiana with Harold, who was a Life Trustee. Harold was a fountain of information, insight and inspiration about Indiana's natural wonders and always a delight to be with. His intelligence enlighted and his wit lightened any conversation. Harold had a life well-lived, helping save thousands of acres of Indiana's natural wonders for not just those of us living today, but for generations yet to come. While his physical presence will be acutely missed, his presence will be felt for decades to come.
