Harold Bennett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Butler-Badman Funeral Home Inc. - Syracuse on Jan. 12, 2026.
Harold "Chip" Bennett born July 14, 1939, died December 31, 2025. He will be sorely missed by his partner of 46 years, Sarah Given; his children, Kristen, and Adam (Traci); Sarah's children, Mike "Moss" McCurdy (Peggy Roche), and Christine McCurdy; his grandchildren, Adam's Max, Emma Mercado (Jon), Gail, and Kate; Christine's Sarena Berg (Jordan), and Marta; and Moss' Maeve (David Rapp) and Rowan; his great grandchildren Emma's Rowan and James, his sister Susan Personius and sister-in-law Dorothy Michalko Bennett, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Chip was a lawyer by training and a teacher by birth. After serving in the US Army, he spent the majority of his career as Professor of Law at SUNY Morrisville. He loved music, played several instruments, participated in musical theater, and was forever bursting into song while going about his daily business, usually with words of his own invention that were completely ridiculous. Laughter was important to Chip, he loved a good joke even though most of the ones he told were terrible. In retirement he loved to ride his bike along the Erie Canal, fish the St. Lawrence River and spend time with his family.

No services will be held. There will be a gathering in remembrance for family and friends to celebrate this much-loved man in the spring. If so inclined, donations in Chip's memory can be made to a charity benefiting children or veterans or one of your choosing.
