Harold Gene “Skeet” Brock of Spartanburg, SC died on Saturday, November 8, 2025. He was the son of the late James Walter and Johnnie Lois Bulman Brock.
He was a 1953 graduate of Roebuck High School. Harold was employed by Thomas & Howard Company Wholesale Grocery Distributor for 50 years, retiring as President. He was a charter member of Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church (now called Church at The Mill) where he served on the first deacon board and several thereafter. He also served on all four building committees, as well as the Pastor’s Council and Pastor Search Team. Harold had a special place in his heart for the children of the church and met many of the needs in the growing children’s ministry, as well as the church. Out of his love of woodworking, Harold built over 60 pieces of furniture and equipment, many of which are still being used today. He established the H. G. Brock Scholarship Foundation to award two seniors each year for 15 years with a college scholarship. Harold and his wife, Gerry, donated the funds to the church to build an indoor playground called “The Rock”, giving it this name to represent the solid foundation that Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church gives its children. His legacy will live on through youth at the church.
Harold was also a member of the Rotary Club of Spartanburg since 1993, the Clemson Tiger IPTAY Club since 1982, the Family Motor Coach Association since 1973, a Mason, a past member of the Spartanburg Touchdown Club, and an Amateur Radio Operator “WA4BFS”.
His love of woodworking allowed Harold to build furniture not only for the church but for many friends. He especially loved making musical instruments. Later in life, when Harold could no longer woodwork, he took up painting on canvas to help pass the time and blessed many friends with his art.
As a man of many talents, Harold was always ready to help others, He loved God, his family, his country, and his friends. His daily prayer was “God, let me do something good for someone today.” He lived the prayer every day to the best of his ability, blessing friends and strangers with a free meal, a handmade pen, a piece of woodwork, doing yardwork for elderly neighbors, and providing meals for people recovering from surgery or illness. Harold was a Godly man who will be greatly missed by so many.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Gerry Pool Brock, and his brother, Herman H. Brock. Harold is survived by his daughter, Paula Elizabeth Barnes (Mike) of Raleigh, NC; son, Douglas Walter Brock (Lisa) of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, Lainey B. Donnan (Trey), Avery D. Brock (Marina), Justin M. Barnes (Catherine), and Morgan B. Crumpler (Hampton); and three great-grandchildren, Brock, Casper, and Campbell.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Church at The Mill, conducted by Rev. Dr. D.J. Horton. The family will receive friends following the services.
