Harold "Ginger" Devine, 91, lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away December 6, 2025, at Addison Place. He was born March 8, 1934, in New Castle to Harold and Mildred (Brookshire) Divine.
Ginger was a 1952 graduate of New Castle High School and spent his entire working life serving our country or his community. Ginger served in the U.S. Air Force overseas at a top-secret military base and had a top-secret military clearance. He also served in the Army National Guard from 1967 until his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1984 as a First Sergeant. Ginger also was a firefighter on the City of New Castle Fire Department and retired as Assistant Chief after 24 years' service. Following his retirement from the fire department, Ginger served as an Investigator for the Henry County Prosecutors Office from 1985 to 1995. He was a deputized employee of the Henry County Sheriff's Department. He retired from the Henry County Sheriff's Merit Board in 2024 after serving for 33 years. Ginger was a former member of the New Castle American Legion Post #137 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1282.
Ginger is survived by his son Maurie Devine of rural Henry County and daughter Jill Devine of Anderson, stepsons JB (Tammi) Nicholson Ryan (Leah) Nicholson and stepdaughter Miranda (Larry) Hatfield, granddaughter Jennifer Haynes-Hall and 8 great grandchildren and companion Dixie Ford.
Ginger was preceded in death by his wife Sandy Devine, granddaughters Lindsay A. Haynes and Ashley Haynes.
Ginger loved the quote: "Live each day like it's your last."
A memorial visitation for Ginger will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Rose City Funeral Home 2011 Broad Street New Castle, IN 47362
. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow the visitation at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Shop with a Fireman 229 N. Main Street New Castle, IN 47362.
