Sparta – Harold W. "Poody" Flickner, age 72, passed away early Saturday night, October 4, 2025, at home following a long illness, surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
Poody was born in Dansville on December 9, 1952, the son of the late Carl and Betty (Isaman) Flickner. He was also predeceased by his son, Justin Flickner, and his sister, Karen Snowman. On March 12, 1999, Poody married Cheryl Davis Flickner, who survives.
He was employed at Main Tire Exchange in Dansville for over 41 years, serving nearly 30 of those years as shop manager where he made many lifelong friends and memories. He was also a member of the Dansville Fish and Game Club. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed passing down his love for hunting and fishing to his sons. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a deep passion and respect for firearms. Poody owned a gun shop for a period of time, H&F Gun Shop, where he shared his expertise, love and knowledge of firearms.
In his younger years, Poody conducted many Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings and sponsored many individuals in need of help and encouragement who are still clean and sober as a result of his dedication.
Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and close friends, who will remember his humor, kindness, quick wit, and the steady way he cared for those around him.
Poody is survived by his sons, Jason Flickner (Jamie Kordich) of Las Vegas and Bradley (Samantha) McKinney of Conesus; grandson, Evan Flickner; twin granddaughters, Maeve and Millie McKinney; sister, Shirley (Dennis) Rawleigh; sister-in-law, Vicky Henry; brothers-in-law, Corey (Debbie) Davis and Tom Snowman; Cheryl's parents, Don and Norma Davis; dear friend, Wayne McMaster; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday from 4–7 p.m. at Hindle Funeral Home, Inc., 271 Main St., Dansville. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery in Scottsburg. Online memories may be shared at HindleFuneralHome.com
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Livingston County Hospice, the Dansville Fish and Game Club, or the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
