Canton – Harold Edward Frizzell, 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at his home.
Harold fought a long hard battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born in Sylva to Arthur W. and Thelma Johnson Frizzell on April 14, 1945. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Fran Burnett. Harold graduated from Bethel High School and enlisted in the Navy. He was in the office of the Admiral at Norfolk Navy Base. Harold then asked to be transferred to the Intrepid Naval Ship during the Vietnam War. He was a Shellback and went around the world.
After his tour of duty, Harold was employed in supervision for 32 years at Champion Papers only missing one day of work. He was an avid runner and marathoner. Harold loved his golfing trips with his buddies and his garden. He also loved to visit at the nursing homes, with his neighbors, and was a diehard Miami Dolphin fan also.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Hyatt Frizzell; daughter, Blake Smith (Tim) of West Orange, New Jersey; two sons, Brad Frizzell (Sheri) of Clarksville, Georgia and Kurt Frizzell of Canton; two granddaughters, Kali S. Martinez and Lexxi Frizzell; three grandsons, Brandon Frizzell, Winston and Silas Smith; a great-granddaughter, Nellie Martinez; two brothers, Ray Frizzell (Theresa) of Canton and Roy Frizzell (Mary Ann) all of Canton; and a sister, Nell Burnett (Don) of Florida.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home conducted by dear friends, Linda Plott and Pat Crawford. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Meal Team), 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716.
The care of Mr. Frizzell has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton and an online memorial register is available at “Obituaries” at www.wellsfuneralhome.com
