Harold D. Havenar Jr.

Harold D. Havenar, Jr., 85, of Riverton, passed away at 3:39 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Sunny Acres. Harold was born March 22, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Harold D. and Lena M. Cross Havenar, Sr. He married Carolyn Lucille Popejoy on June 15, 1960 in Springfield Harold attended Springfield High School and proudly served his country during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He worked for Morgan Farm Equipment for 17 years and then as a line chief for the State of Illinois for 9 years. He also taught at the IL Association of Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America. He was a member of the American Legion Post 905 and enjoyed traveling, fishing and woodcarving. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Diane Roberts and Donna Smith; brother, William Havenar and sister, Betty McAlexander. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Riverton; two sons, Steve Havenar of Riverton and Rick (wife, Robin) Havenar of Carlisle, PA; three daughters, Debbie (fiancé, Dale) Humphress of Springfield, Carolyn (husband, Sherwood) Danenberger of Springfield and Barb (husband, Harvey) Goetsch of FL; nineteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim McAlexander; sister-in-law, Geraldine Havenar of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Michael A. Koschmann. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
