HAROLD "BUNKER" SHIPP HILL, Jr., 71 TAMPA - Harold "Bunker" Shipp Hill, Jr. of Tampa passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 14, 2014, due to a heart attack. Born in Miami on October 28, 1942 to the late Patricia Brewer Hill and Harold "Bunker" Shipp Hill Sr. of Lakeland, he graduated from Marion Institute Military Academy and went on to graduate with a BS degree from Florida State University. Upon graduation he earned the rank of Lieutenant in the United States Army and served one tour in Vietnam. He retired after 20 years as a LT. Colonel in the US Army Reserves. After returning from Military service he joined the family Lakeland Dodge dealership known for its slogan "It's no battle to trade with "Bunker" Hill becoming sole owner of the dealership until its sale in 1981. Upon the sale, he embarked on a second successful career as a financial advisor with EF Hutton and subsequently with UBS as Vice President of Tampa Wealth Management until his untimely death. A fervent Florida State fan, he traveled to every Florida State game for 40 years; served twice as Lakeland Chairman for FSU Fundraising and as well as the Seminole Booster Board of Directors for over 10 years. He was never prouder than when FSU won its Third BCS National Championship title in 2014. Bunker was an accomplished scuba diver becoming certified as a PADI Master Scuba Instructor; imparting his love of the underwater world to hundreds of students as a scuba instructor at the University of Tampa and the World of Water for over 20 years. Although a Florida native, his love of the outdoors led him to make Colorado his second home. He was in his element skiing on the slopes, hiking, or laughing with his friends at the Dillon Dam Brewery. Bunker is survived by his son, Geoff Hill, stepchildren Tami Hartman (Joe) and Mark Maulden (Barry) of Lakeland, brother Robert Hill (Carrie) of Boynton Beach, sister Patricia Jean Hill of Atlanta GA; former wife Patricia Hill, also of Lakeland and numerous friends he considered as his extended family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Blount & Curry MacDill Avenue Chapel, Tampa. A reception will follow the service.
