Harold Eugene Lear, 74, of Ottawa, KS died Wednesday, August 2, 2023 in Harveyville, Kansas surrounded by his daughters and his brother.
He was born September 17, 1948 in Iola, KS the son of Ira Herbert Lear and Darlene (Adams) Lear. Harold grew up in Williamsburg, KS, graduating from Williamsburg, High School with the class of 1968 He later attended Neosho community College attaining his Licensed Practical Nursing Degree.
Harold was an E.M.T. in Texas early in his life, prior to his attending Neosho County Community College. After becoming licensed he worked most of his professional career as a traveling nurse. He also worked for a time at Ottawa Retirement Village and his favorite job was working for T.H.E.M. Harold was diagnosed with M.S. early in life and had to leave the nursing profession. That led him to becoming a minister in the Methodist Church. He pastored Michigan Valley United Methodist Church. Harold loved his time as a pastor. It allowed him to keep helping others, a trait he showed throughout his life.
Harold served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1983 to 1985 and then in the United States army Reserves until 1989.
He was an avid fisherman, never missing a chance to wet a line. He loved to go driving around to garage sales and going antiquing. His constant companion was his dashaunds that he loved dearly. He was also an avid Chiefs fan and so enjoyed the recent Super Bowl wins.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Michael Lear.
He is survived by four children, Melody Dayhoff and her partner Steve, Corpus Christi, TX, Jennifer Sanchez and her husband, Bryon, Galena, KS, Kristina Kuntz and her husband, Dustin, Harveyville, KS, son Jason Lear Ottawa, KS; brother Jerry Lear and his wife Donna, Ottawa, KS; a sister-in-law, Peggy Lear, Ottawa, KS; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A memorial funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Harveyville United Methodist Church, Harveyville, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
