This photo is of "Mac" and "OB" Kastner in July 1977 where Mac is giving his LCI 31 shipmate the historical Boston tour. This was the first they had seen each other since the end of their service during WWII. Mac kept in touch with our family long after my dad passed in 1997 -- he telephoned my mom every year at Christmas time. My last conversation with Mac was in May 2015 when we discussed his book about his WWII experiences. The picture of LCI 31 on the front cover has my dad on deck with his bare back and "bird" legs to Mac's camera. My remembrance of Mac is that he was ALWAYS engaging, enthusiastic, and energetic -- and highly entertaining -- and I feel great regret that I did not get to the Boston area to see him one more time, or that my son who is coming to Boston in October 2016 did not get to meet this remarkable real-life character of the greatest generation. I just loved his spirit! So sorry for our loss -- but what a great reunion they are having now!

Dear MacCombie family, ~ I send my heartfelt condolences to you all. My father worked at Brookfield with Harold and had the highest respect for him and his workmanship. I read also that he was a Machinist First Class in the Navy, as was my father in the South Pacific. I met Harold on a few occasions when my dad needed help doing a chore. The photo shows a chandelier I bought in New Orleans that Harold hung in our living room. God bless him.

Wonderful guy - we shared a lot of moments at Brookfield, but I never knew he was from Hyde Park where I was also born.

I always enjoyed bumping into Harold at SG when I would visit my Mom. He was a happy, kind man with a great sense of humor. My deepest sympathy to the MacCombie family and all his friends at SG. Great photo and impressive obituary.
