Harold H. McWilliams, 98 of Redding, CA, formerly of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021. He was born on April 3, 1923, to Charles & Leona (Weber) McWilliams in Unadilla. Harold graduated from Syracuse High School and later went to the School of Aeronautics after his military service. Harold served in the 451st bombing group in the 15th Army AirCorp during WWII.
On September 3, 1946, he married Dorothy Dunlap in Hiawatha, KS. Harold worked as an aircraft and engine mechanic for 32 years for American Airlines. He was also involved with the American Legion, VFW, TWU, Lions club and enjoyed his 451st bomb group reunions. Of his many hobbies, gardening was the one that he enjoyed the most. During his time in Syracuse he loved to be involved with the community.
He is survived by his daughters Rita McWilliams (Ron Madewell), Karen Lytle (John Lytle), 5 grandchildren, brother Ray (Carol) McWilliams and a sister-in-law Marylee Pearson (Monty Pearson).
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, sisters Gladys Glaubitz & Ruby Faust and brothers Earl McWilliams & Ross McWilliams.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, December 17 at 2 p.m. at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Facebook page.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the 451st Bomb Group.
