My Dad and Chick have been friends for many years. He was such a quiet laid back kind of guy but in his younger wilder years did not make a great impression with my very hard to please Memaw so anytime she would come over he´d come running in my room in his overalls hiding from her. I´ll always smile every time I think about that. He was such a great man and a wonderful friend to my parents, he will be sorely missed by the Howard family

George and I are going to miss our dear friend so very much. We love him and wish he could be here to make more fun memories with us. We are both grateful that we have so many good, as well as funny, memories to look back on. Chick was like a big brother to George for many, many years so this is very hard for him. George said, "not goodbye, but so long."Our hearts are broken, rest in peace Chicky Poo.

Chick
I worked in the gang with Chick back in the late 70s. In order to communicate with each other on the very loud derrick working floor,
men have to yell, scream orders, warnings or directions to each other, all except Chick.somehow his nod of the head, eye contact or mouthing a word was enough. He was a very well mannered man, who spoke softly, carried his share of the load and was always available to lend a hand. He was a great example of the old saying, “walk softly and carry a big stick!
In 1986 we were building a 42 story building in Atlanta, Georgia, the local Union Iron Workers did not appreciate having a Union company from Texas coming to Atlanta and taking work from the local steel erectors. They set out to make us miserable, they sabotaged our equipment and intimidated some of our Houston Iron Workers. I sent Chick to run the derrick gang, he didn’t raise hell or threaten any one..he simply raised his voice a decibel or two and set the record straight as to who was in charge. That was Chick, all Man and no B.S.
Rest in Peace, Brother..you were one of the Good Ones.

I had the privilege of riding with Chick two or three times. He was one of the people that defined the personality of the whole group. I only met him a few times, but it always felt like coming home again when he was there. He will be missed tremendously, and remembered always.

Chick was the best ironworker I ever met (amazing) If Chick was your friend he was for sure the best friend you would ever have. I always felt proud to be associated with him. I never hung out with Chick a lot but I always knew he was just a heartbeat away.
I miss you already my brother.
