Mr. Harold D. Oliver, “Sonny” passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024. He was born December 7, 1929 to the late Edgar F. Oliver and Sadie Hamilton Oliver, the second of thirteen children.
Sonny graduated from Pleasant Grove School. After serving as S. Sgt. in the United States Air Force, he completed a degree from Burlington Business College. And was employed at Moore Oil Company, he then established his own businesses as owner of Burlington Auto Parts, Auto Stop Parts and Co-owner of M/O Foreign Auto Parts for over 30 years. Sonny was the oldest living male of Union Ridge Church serving as Deacon, boy scout leader and member of various committees. He was a member of Civitan for many years, having served as President. Sonny loved visits with family and friends, gardening, playing cards, and fishing at the coast.
He is survived by two children, Ricky Oliver (Gail) and Lisa Oliver (Greg Walker); granddaughters, Jessica and Olivia Walker; brothers, Gene Oliver (Pat), Gordon Oliver (Cindy); sister, Edna Blanchard, Anne Suggs (Cecil), Jane Scott (Tony) and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Hazel Fitch Oliver; brothers, Alan, Bobby, Johnny, Jack and Forrest Oliver; sisters, Vivian Scott and Jeanette Glen; in laws, Curry and Holt Fitch and Polly Ward and Virginia Bright

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Union Ridge Church with Rev. Dan Ficklin officiating. Family will receive friends 1:00 PM – 2:45 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Union Ridge Church Building Fund, 115 Altamahaw Union Ridge Road, Burlington, NC., 27217.
