In Loving Memory of Harriet Francis Haygood (1949-2025)
Harriet Francis Haygood, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, at the age of 76 in her hometown of Rochester, New York.
She was born in Herkimer, NY, to Janie Francis Haygood Stukes and Henry Eason, Step-Father Alvin Stukes. She and her twin brother were the first black set of twins to be born in that particular hospital in Herkimer, NY. She moved to the Rochester, NY area as a young girl where she spent most of her life. She was a dedicated employee at Strong Memorial Hospital for over 20 years before she retired. She also owned several businesses with her husband, a restaurant, corner store and furniture shop. Harriet liked road trips, outdoor life, cooking, helping others, and spending time with her grandchildren. Harriet was the first, in a group of 42 souls, to receive salvation in January of 1975 in a revival conducted by Bishop C E Campbell and the late Bishop P J Flecther. In her last years she enjoyed traveling with her husband and dog Shocka, watching the sunsets, gospel videos on YouTube, political news and seeing her Grandkids.
Harriet is Preceded by her Loving Husband Joseph Sanders, her parents Janie Francis Haygood Stukes and Henry Eason, and 5 siblings. Harriet is one of twenty-two siblings. She leaves to mourn, three daughters Kimberly James, Trina Jefferson, Tasha Grant (Christopher). Desmond Sanders (Grandchild raised as a son). Several siblings, Eugene Haygood, Bishop Harry H Haygood, (Rayvonnia) Janice Montgomery, (Tyrone), Lonnell Stukes, Yvonne Stukes, Ina Haywood, (Charles), Jamie Pagan, Jem Pagan, Robert Pagan. Alice Eason, Lenore Eason, Roselyn Eason, Shirley Eason, Princes Eason, Jackie Eason, Ida (DeeDee) Eason, Kim Eason, all of Philadelpha. PA. 10 Grandchildren (Jahmar, Katryna, Elijah, Nya, Dayton, Zina, Dutch, Lavynn, Darryl Jr.), 10 Great Grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2 from 10-12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Boulevard. A Funeral Service will follow at 12pm. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
