Harriette L. Scherer, age 97 of Melrose, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Park View Place in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held in summer of 2026.
Harriette LaVada Marsh was born February 10, 1928 in Plentywood, Montana to Bernard and Elizabeth (Schmit) Marsh. She graduated from Annandale High School and attended college at Litchfield. Harriette taught at a rural school near Cokato, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Cletus Scherer on September 10, 1949 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale, Minnesota. Harriette was a housewife and mother, helper in all business ventures, and a volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and school. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary, and the Senior Citizens. Harriette enjoyed gardening, volunteering, helping Cletus with business adventures, and socializing with staff at Parkview.
Survivors include her children, Daniel (Barbara) Scherer of Delano, Mary Ann (Jim) Loecken of Melrose, Irene (Paul) Petersen of Fergus Falls, and David Scherer and Ann Jessome of Bedford, Nova Scotia; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Harriette was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus Schere on October 1, 2010; sisters, Marion Marsh and Helen Streu Baird; brothers, Fredrick, Raymond, and Clifford Marsh; and infant daughter, Elizabeth Lucy Scherer.
