He lifts us out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He sets our feet on solid ground and steadies us as we walk alongside. - Psalm 40:2 -
God wants to take us to take our sorrow and trade it in for His peace. When we seek God's purpose in the grief and pain, He opens our eyes to his mercy and grace in our lives. Nothing can separate us from the love of God, and we continue to lean on Him even now. Remembering you, cousin...

When I learned of what happened to Harry, my heart sank and I sobbed. From that day, I've raised my kids to always be kind, to be loving and caring, to be ready to lend a helping hand, to provide even tough love if needed, and always smile, especially when times are rough, because they're contagious and even a smile helps lift a person up. It's how I remember Harry. He was this person. He was all of this and more. God Bless You Harry.❤

Harry and Alex Blanding were good friends of mine growing up in Middletown. Many nights we spent in my den playing video games, soccer, baseball and football at Bodman Park and hanging out with all our friends. Harry you never knew it but I always looked up to you because you were the person who taught me the meaning of tough love and you were a good friend to everyone, regardless of walks of life, race or color. My wife and I have taught my son and daughter to live the same way, and it started with my mom and dad and continued with you. We might have drifted apart as life sometimes does, but I never forgot you. It broke my heart when I learned of your passing, nearly a year after that dreadful day, and my family prayed for you and your family. Today and everyday I wear my 9/11 Memorial wrist band to remember you and to always remind me and my family to lead a positive life, to do random acts of kindness daily, and be strong in heart, in love and faith. Again my thoughts and prayers go out to your mom, dad, your brother and your family

I'm thinking about Harry more often than not lately. It's in laughter. What a brat! It was with good intention. He tried to set me up w/ one of his best friends. A former co-worker (who broke up w/ his girlfriend days prior) Yea = not a good idea, Harry.

2Peter3:18

Johanna Blanding-Koskinen

September 11, 2015

We know that it is not unusual for God to use the imperfect and inadequate moments of this world to His honor and praise. Those of us who believe on Him, are fortunate in that He gives us in our grief, the room to question him during times like this. And if we allow him, he fills us with a peace that passes all understanding.
It's that peace we want to embrace, because it helps us to draw closer, and we find comfort in his wisdom; we remember the blessed assurance of a love so great, so deep, that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus, the Christ, Our Savior, so that those who choose to believe on Him, would have life everlasting.
And so, we press on, and we continue to grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
And we give to him all the glory, then, now and forevermore. 2Peter3:18.

With much love and prayer, Johanna Blanding-Koskinen

Hayley
Your Father LOVED you with all his heart and soul. You were truly his fairy tale Princess and he was so very, very proud to have made you with your Mom. Of course he told me your external beauty came from your Mom. Having known them both your internal beauty Comes from both.
I too lost my Father, although not as young as you were that tragic day. I can tell you, from my own experience.. My Daddy was with me when I was walking down the aisle on my wedding day.
Have faith. he watches over you and protects you.
Love,

I got to thinking a couple weeks ago about my father and when I will see him again, if ever. The thought brought me to tears. I'm not sure why but for some reason, I have been denying that I will only see my father in the afterlife. In the way back of my mind, I thought he would come back. Well now I've realized it and it has been really hard for me. Tears come in my eyes as I think how I won't have anybody to walk me down the aisle at my wedding or have the special father-daughter dance. You won't be at my high school graduation or be there when I achieve my dream of being on the stage. My children will never know their grandfather and when I come home for the holidays, the only parent I will be greeting is my mother. People who recieve the luck of having a father don't get it and I understand. They've had a somebody there for them all their lives. Everybody else in my kindergarten class were making their fathers day gifts to actually give to their dad, while mine was going to be in a glass display case. I know he has seen it because my father has always been a man who's been there for people. He's been down here and he's watching over us. Now that I think about it, who knows...maybe he will be walking me down the aisle at my wedding.
Daddy, I don't know if you're reading this, but I just want you to know that I love you. I will pass on your memory to all who will listen and always remember you.
You are truly my hero.

Harry, I think of you on this day. I recently went to a reunion at WPC (or should I say WPUNJ now that they have University status) and saw that Billy Pat's Pub is no longer there. It's a shame because we have so many fond memories since so many of our nights in college were spent in that place.
I thank you for all you taught me and how special and smart you made me feel when we studied together.
I hope your family knows what a special person you are and how honored I am to have had you in my life.

Thanks Harry

It was with great sadness that I learned of your passing on 9/11 in the World Trade Center in June of 2009. I have thought often of capturing my thoughts and there is no better time than on that awful anniversary.

I hope these words will shed some light to others as to your wisdom at an early age. Harry and I met in high school and often hung with a group of about 5 to 10 guys. I will always remember Harry’s quick smile and infectious hearty laugh. I thoroughly enjoyed all the time we spent together but none more so than the time playing basketball. I envied your quickness and ball handling and loved when we shared the backcourt duties in the many pickup games we played.. This was during the heyday of Magic Johnson. We called you “Magic glasses” due to your slick and smooth play.

We lost track after HS and it was not until Walter let me know this past June you were in the WTC on that tragic day. That let me think back on the importance of our friendship to me.

You and Walter thought me, a middle class white kid not to judge others on the basis of the color of ones skin. The fact we were of different races had little bearing on our friendship. You and Walter lived Martin Luther King’s message and imparted it on me. I am sure you lived those lessons everyday and imparted them on your kids. From what I have read about you and your family it looked like you have a wonderful wife and daughters. I am so sorry you were taken from them but am so thankful for the time we had.

God Bless you Harry.

Harry,
I have many fond memories of our childhood, your family down on Crestview and us on Danemar. And how we both ended up on the bench in varsity soccer, hoping in vain that Middletown South would get enough of a lead to get us some game time. Still, you had an infectious grin and great laugh that made everything seem worthwhile. I was working in NYC then, too. I even tried to donate blood to help, but the lines were around the block. I wish I could have done more, but will forever be endeared to all of you who unknowingly sacrificed so much so that the rest of us could learn how to live safer from terrorism. The world definitely changed that day, worse for our loss, but better for what we learned: live well, stay close to family and friends, and remember to laugh, even if you're on the bench. Keep 'em smiling Harry!

All the pictures in the pub, football games and just going out, will always be reminders of how special you were and how you made everyone around you smile. Hey Harry? Swipe the smile off of your face. Fortunately, if you knew him, you know that would never happen and only get worse; big cheezy grin.

I worked with Harry and Debbie at Allianz in 1990. It was so obvious to me that they were madly in love with one another. Sometimes we all went out for drinks after work and had so many laughs. Harry would light up whenever Debbie was around him. I had the pleasure of working with him again at Chubb and met his adorable children. I had lunch today with Dave Clark, who also worked with us at Allianz. We spoke of Harry and Debbie and of their love for one another. I'm so glad I had the pleasure of knowing Harry. May Debbie and their children find comfort in knowing what a wonderful person he was.

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Harry I couldn't bear to write in your book on Sept 11th for it was too difficult to put into words what I was feeling. Families who didn't lose anyone on Sept 11th think of everyone who's lost someone only one day a year. Harry deserves more. He may be in heaven, but his smile, his laugh, and his happiness are thought of on many occasions. I hope all is well with his family and friends and may everyone have as many blessings as the tears that we shed for Harry. I know I cried all day Sept 11th especially since I let so much time go by without talking to him and hearing about his family. It's 20 years since we graduated college and yet it seems like only yesterday since we last laughed together. I'll continue to think of you with each beer I drink with my Billy Pat's Pub mug. God Bless everyone who had the opportunity to be a part of Harry's life and may we always remember Harry, not just on Sept 11th.

Harry and I went to college together along with my brother Billy where they were in many classes together. Because we commuted to school Harry came home with us many times. Harry became one of my closest friends and part of my family while in college not just because of our evenings in the pub, but because of the many times he spent with my family instead of going home to his. Graduation day at William Paterson was spent at my house where my family was just as proud of Harry as they were of my brother and me. I have many fond memories of this special person who I wish I was able to see get married and start a family. Words cannot express how I still feel about losing Harry even five years later. He was truly a special person and my prayers and thoughts are with his family.

I worked with Harry and Debbie at Allianz Insurance in Jersey City, NJ and this morning was the first time i learned of Harry's loss. I was watching the tv and when i saw Harry's photo and heard his name i was numb. I remembered how many laughs we had as we sat across from each other and i miss his smile. We would always run company races and Harry would always run by me saying catch me if you can. He adopted a cat named Hugo from me that used to climb his curtains. I miss those stories we shared. I lost contact with most Allianz co workers but i always wondered if Debbie and Harry would marry and so hear i read of their true love and marriage on the same day i learned of Harry's death. Debbie and Family i am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and all day long i thought about Harry and i send my condolences to you and please know i will never forget Harry and his smile. God Bless you and know that Harry touched my life very much and although i lost touch with Debbie and Harry i never stopped thinking of them. I was fortunate enough to meet Harry when he came to St. Paul Companies for training on our new claims system. There weren't enough computers available, so I shared one with him for the week. Harry was the coolest. He was in my physics class in high school. I'll always remember his laugh and his smile. I met Debbie and Harry at a friends wedding in Lincroft. Harry and I became friends starting in 1980 at Middletown HS South. We shared a lot of good times playing football, going to the Jersey shore, hanging out with Walter and Mark P. in Lincroft, Mark R. in Montclair and Larry in West Orange. We through the best parties when were roommates after college. His smile and laugh always made you laugh.

Then 8 years went by when we didn't see each other. We both started to have families. In 2001 I made a concerted effort to reach out to people I cared about. I had Harry, Debbie and their kids over our house for a Labor Day Barbecue. Our families got to meet each other for the first time and we got to re-connect. I feel blessed to have the gift of being with Harry that one last time. Nine days later was September 11th.

I want to do something for Harry and his family. One of the things I do is provide life coaching and direction to youth. Debbie - can I be there for your kids by coaching them over the phone?

Five years ago I saw Harry and his beautiful family at a Labor Day BBQ on Greenwood lake at the home of his high school buddy Jack Brown. I met Harry when he used to visit Jack, also my college roomate at MSC(now MSU). Harry went to WPU just up the road. I was just reading how genuine Steve Irwin was who acted from love always. I thought of Harry. He too was of that ilk. The Rossi family remembers and will pray for Harry and family this five year aniversary as we do each year.

I worked with Harry at Ward N.A. in the New Jersey office prior to his joining Aon. Harry was such a caring, sincere man; I remember the many times we had lunch together with another employee, Ken Hicks, also of Aon and the fun times we would have after work grabbing a beer or two together. My thoughts are always with Harry during this time of the year; what a great person he was.

Remembering Harry and his beautiful wife and children in church and thinking what a perfect family they were. Will always picture him as a great family man with a picture perfect family. We were members of the same church, Pleasant Valley Presbyterian.

Although, our family moved to another church we think of his wife and children and pray that they all are doing fine.

I remember Harry catching the winning extra point of our flag football championship game. The ear to ear grin on his face, football in hand, arms outstretched in the air, is the way I'll always remember Harry - as a winner. Harry, I miss playing football with you, thanks for treating me like your brother. God bless you, Debbie and your children, always. You are not forgotten. Your friend and center, John Cairns

I met Harry and his wife Debbie when they first moved to PA and built their home. We have been friends ever since. Myself and my husband built the same house as Harry and Debbie, and my husband Don and Harry rode the Martz bus together some of the time.

Harry was just the nicest person you could meet. Always there to help if needed and always words of encouragement.

Harry all the Higgins Family miss you!!! God Bless

Harry Blanding was truly a one of a kind individual. An amazing father, a great husband, and an excellent neighbor. I knew Harry more of the latter than anything else, and was constantly impressed at his compassion and love for everyone. I think about Harry a lot and truly miss him. Now that I'm interning at AON in NYC, it hits close to home in a different way. I know that Harry is looking over his wonderful family and friends.

God Bless

Harry Blanding wasn't just my cousin by relation but his parents are my godparents. Every time I go home and see his picture, I always see a little bit of him in myself. You'll never be forgotten Harry, I'll make sure of that.

Throughout our lives we come in contact with thousands of people. Among the massive numbers there are sometimes a handful of people that are considered friends and that have a great impact on our lives. Harry was a someone who had a huge impact on my life and will never be forgotten. A reliable, loyal friend who enjoyed life to the fullest and always fought for the underdog. Never one to shy away from helping other people. I was shocked to hear about Harry as I haven't been in touch with him for several years since the days at WPC. Harry is a good man and will continue to look over his family as he sits beside the lord. God bless you and your family. You are missed everyday and I thank God for the times that we had and the friendship that I'll never forget.

My name is John Finnerty. I met Harry through his wife Debbie. Debbie & I worked together for 5 years. I had the pleasure of having Harry at my wedding in 1999. His wife & 3 children are beautiful. I was only at Harry's house while he was there 1 time. But it was a very memorable event. Harry & Debbie's dog, BJ, had, shall I say, a gas problem. We had some great laughs. Lord knows my wife and I truly miss and love Harry. I was at work when I found out that Harry was in the South Tower. I found out on 9/14. How I cried! We miss you and love you Harry!

Love,

John, Laura, Caitlyn & Tommy Finnerty
