West Fulton- Harry J. Clapper, 91, of West Fulton, died Monday, July 30, 2012 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born December 22, 1920 in Fairland (West Fulton), he was a son of Timothy J. and Ethel I. (Fancher) Clapper. Harry attended the one room schoolhouse and subsequently graduated from Middleburgh Central School. He was also an active member of the Fairland Church and after its closing, became a member of the West Fulton United Methodist Church. Harry was a dairy farmer, owning and operating Elmdale Farm. For many years, he had a milk route for Schoharie County Cooperative Dairies. His favorite past times included fixing automobiles and machinery, repairing clocks, and playing the harmonica. Harry was one of the founding members of the West Fulton Volunteer Fire Department and served as a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Swart) Clapper, who died April 19, 2009. Survivors include his three children: Carl H. Clapper of West Fulton, Kenneth L. (Fay) Clapper of West Fulton, and Margie (Don) Carney, Jr. of Harleysville, PA; two grandchildren: Bridget L Carney and Alexander J. Carney and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, with Rev. Neil Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Breakabeen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to West Fulton United Methodist Church, PO Box 41, West Fulton, NY 12194 or Fox Chase Cancer Center, in care of Lisa Emgushov, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111.
