My deepest condolences to the Cole family. I had Mr. Cole as a basketball coach and teacher at Lake Shore Jr. High and Kennedy Middle School. He had a significant impact on my life. Mr. Cole was a wonderful teacher always with an encouraging word. He always had a kind word to say. He truly taught "life lessons" to his students that they will never forget. God bless you Mr. Cole you were one of the best!

Very sorry to hear about Mr. Coles passing. Absolutely one of the best teachers and persons I've ever had the privilege to know. I had Mr. Cole for gym class at Kennedy in 1967-68. These were the days when "dodge ball" was played in class from time-to-time. After one game he jokingly said "I could beat all of you". There were at least 30 (all boys) in the class and we all laughed at that comment. He then had us all occupy one half of the court and proceeded to do exactly as he said. in short order all 30 of us had been eliminated! i played hoops and FB for Kennedy, continuing into HS - he was always one of the coaches/teachers you preferred to have because he was involved with the kids, obviously enjoyed teaching/coaching and was a great deal of fun to be with as a kid. I haven't seen Me. Cole for some 35-years, but I still think about him from time-to-time and those thoughts bring a smile to my face. Condolences to the family. Thank you to Mr. Cole for being a cherished part of my life.

I was shocked to read this. Harry (Mr. Cole) was a great mentor and my basketball coach from 1966 to 1969 and football coach in 1966 at Lake Shore/Kennedy Junior High School. Harry was one of 2 coaches I had in my life that I always compared others to. He believed in his players and loved to be around kids. His happy, cheerful and ambitious demeanor will always be remembered by me.

So sorry to hear the news - Harry was one of the nicest guy I've ever met. Someone said - if you got the chance to meet Harry and get to know him, your life was better off for it - that was me. I have taught at Lake Shore for 23 years. I remember Harry well. A true difference maker in this world - we all hope that we can make an impact on the world like he did. I love the words "do something nice for a friend." Classic Harry! :-) God Bless!

Harry was one of the finest people I have ever had the pleasure to call friend. I will miss him. If you have had the pleasure of knowing Harry then your life has been enriched. Always a smile, except whenever I got on his nerves. I knew when Harry was ready to go at it with me when his teeth came out. Immediately I would start laughing and he would too. Like a brother to me, may God bless you.

My wife and I got to know Harry because we share nephews. Actually, we met at the wedding of one of these nephews.
As you go through life, you meet all kinds of people. But only rarely do you meet someone who leaves such a positive impression as Harry. Even during our short time together over that wedding weekend, Harry was always upbeat, positive and just plain solid. Just the kind of guy you'd want for a next door neighbor or a golfing buddy. I envy those who were lucky enough to have known him for years. I can only imagine how well liked he was in his career and how many youthful lives he influenced in profoundly positive and enduring ways.
We'll always remember you, Harry. A bright, shining light has gone dark but your radiance will shine forever.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Harry. I was blessed to come to know and
be around Harry the last few years, playing golf with him @ St. Clair Shores Golf
Club. He was always a joy to have him as part of our foursome of myself, Tony Champa, & Robert Szydlowski. The short time that I played golf with him,
he never had a discouraging word to say about anyone or his golf game, which
he prided himself to be a proficient player! He will indeed be missed by his
fellow golf friends and all those who were fortunate enough to be blessed with
his outgoing personality!
Sincerely, Tom Lorence

I had Mr. Cole in the 80's. No doubt my favorite teacher. He was a kind and amazing man. He gave me my first job at Gowanie Golf Course. After I graduated, if I saw a class outside in the field at Kennedy, I would stop by just to say hello. My condolences to his family. He has positively made a mark on his students.

I will always remember Harry for our two man scrambles on Fridays with the boys. Harry and I were partners and he would always compliment my swing and golf shots all the way around the course....almost making me forget that we ended up using all his shots! He was always a true gentleman and one of a kind! He will be missed.

Whenever I saw Harry at the golf course I had an instant smile! He always something funny or nice to say. From the very first day we met he made feel like we had been friends for years. From the sound of it, his personality impacted a ton of people and his heart will beat on thru all the people that knew and loved him. The world could use more Harry's. Gonna miss him.

Harry was my football coach and teacher. He was one of a very select few teachers that I had the utmost respect for. Truly a great man who was honest, friendly, and admired by any who came in contact with. I called him yearly for years to keep in touch and let him know every call how much I appreciated ever meeting him and wishing him the best. I will truly regret not being able to contact him anymore to let him know how much he meant to me. Just talking to him was an uplifting experience for me. One truly great man.

Whenever I'm asked to tell about the teacher that had the most impact on me, Mr. Cole is the one that comes up. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Cole as a gym teacher at Kennedy. Teaching middle school myself these days, I still think back to his life lessons and only hope to leave half the impression on my students as he did on me. A great man that will not be forgotten.

I always liked and respected Mr Cole. I remember 10th grade football asking Mark Revella, who's locker was right next to mine, who he thought would start at QB in our first game, me or Tomich. Mark said "Let me ask coach Cole." Before I could grab Revella, he was on his way to ask coach Cole. All I heard was coach Cole saying, "Tell Kalich to ask his own questions!" Mr/Coach Cole was a no nonsense, but very special guy. May he rest in peace!! My prayers go out to his family!!

I remember going for the President's physical fitness award in gym class. I passed everything but was one inch short of qualifying for the sit and reach. He let Joel Puidokas sit on my back so that I could stretch the extra inch. I popped my hamstring but I still have my President's patch. Thanks Mr. Cole!
