I knew Bates during his formative years and through work, friendship and college. I always knew that he was going into the army when he was done with school. Everybody was fine with that. I never worried about him because Bates was always the one that we looked up to and knew that with him, everybody was safe. Great guy, well respected, loved him, and will be sorely missed. Angela was the greatest joy for Bates. Building a family was icing on the cake. In reading the obituary, I wanted to read what I didn´t know about his successful career. The accolades and honors that he received were of no surprise to me. But as a great man and father, husband, and was also always concerned about his family, and friends when needed. He may have been about 6´ tall on paper , but to me he was 10´tall. A true friend and a forever "brother".
Rest in peace Bates.
