Harry Paul Gauss

I was saddened to hear of Harry's passing. I was fortunate enough to play soccer under Harry at Fanshawe College during his first and second year as head coach. He made me laugh, cry, but most of all played a role in the person I have become. I was truly blessed to have known him both as a player and a person. Harry, for the last time, dog sledding is not our main form of transportation in Thunder bay :)

Harry, you were an inspiration to so many. Your honesty, integrity and passion for the game made you loved by those who truly knew you.

You instilled so much in me and helped shape my life. I am very grateful for my years spent with you at London City.

I see your passion in my son Max's eyes. Named after your father, he is a national champion golfer. You gave the passion to me, and I gave it to him.

Thanks for all the great memories. Thanks for your undying dedication. Your legacy and the Gauss family name will live on forever.

Words cannot express the sorrow we feel for your loss. From the time we were introduced to Harry Paul Gauss and London City, it was an instant friendship that lasted 18 years. His passion for soccer was addictive. His dreams became our dreams and we strived to make them come true. When the chips were down we all chipped in to help. You always knew that you can count on Harry to help in any sticky situation and he would have the solution. His dedication to soccer will live forever.

Harry you made quite an impact on so many lives. You will missed, but we know you are now pain free.

It is so hard to be far away when there is a death in the family- the loss of someone you know. I wish I could be closer to be some support and hug those who need it.
Joe and I were hoping to see Harry along with all the other relatives when we come home at Christmas.
Instead, we have our memories- especially those of the last time we saw him: At Ryan and Haley's wedding.
It was a great day, happy couple, beaming Cathy and Harry, all dressed up in his tux and out and about- much like his old self, the proud father.
He leaves a legacy in his sons.
But Harry has a legacy that exceeds London. He is a Canadian soccer pioneer.
My conversations with students who played for Harry always involved the joy of soccer, admiration for Harry's knowledge, wariness of his rants and appreciation of his charcter.
And Harry was a character- always ready with a humerous or interesting story.
He will be missed-

My deepest sympathy to my sister, Kathy, my nephews Sean and Ryan and to the entire Murray and Gauss families. Harry was a brother in law, friend, coach and mentor. Harry was always the "best dressed" student and young man in London when I first met him when he courted Kathy. I also remember his infectious laugh and love of life. He acutally took me to get fitted for my first real suit. I remember that well. He also advised me on soccer strategy when I coached boys and girls soccer at Regina Mundi. He was always glad to see his friends and was always a gentleman. He is now with his beloved son, Paul, his mother, Magdalene, his mother in law, Eleanor and his father in law George. I shall miss him greatly.
