1928 - 2022
Bountiful, UT—Harry Beneo Gerlach, a beloved father, passed though the veil on April 1, 2022, to a grand reunion with his Heavenly Father and family.
Born to Otto Karl Gerlach and Emilie Ottilie Weiss on Nov 29, 1928, Harry's family immigrated to the US from East Prussia in 1929 and lived in Rochester, NY.
While serving in the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Thea Ingeborg Schindler and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised 6 children in the Val Verda area of Bountiful, Utah. He founded HB Gerlach Co, which sold scientific equipment.
Harry was a hard-working husband and dedicated father. Deeply patriotic, Harry was elected and served as Davis County Commissioner for several terms. He loved teaching Gospel classes, singing in choirs, and was a faithful home teacher. Harry loved theater and was an actor, singer, and magician. In "retirement" he served faithfully as a guide in the LDS Conference Center, and as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple. At 93, Harry waited out the pandemic in order to attend the temple three weeks before his death.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife (Thea), son (Ben), son-in-law (Ian Sampson), and three grandchildren. He is survived by Gail Sampson, Tricia Lindorff, Richard (Trish) Gerlach, Valarie (Mark) Jolly, Russel (Karen) Gerlach and Vicki Gerlach (Ben's wife), and over 60 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pages Lane Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1476 North 300 West, Bountiful, Utah 84010 where a viewing will be held Thursday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services.

We so enjoyed serving with Harry in the Salt Lake Conference Center. He was a dear friend. He always had a positive attitude and a smile on his face.

Harry was a good friend and excellent Sunday school teacher. He came to our home dressed as Santa and sang to us. He was a good example to all and will be misted.

Harry was so dear to our family. He has been missed since he moved from our neighborhood. He was our home teacher for many years--a marvelous and caring one! He and Thea were a great team and I always enjoyed visiting with them.
