Harry Clemons Lamphier
Harry Clemons Lamphier, age 85, passed away peacefully, on October 30, 2025, with his daughter by his side, in the VITAS Unit of Saint Mary's Hospital.
Born on July 9, 1940, in Waterbury, Harry was the son of the late Harry F. and Ruth (Templeton) (Millard) Lamphier. He was a graduate of Watertown High School and Post Junior College, where he studied accounting. A whiz with numbers, he began his career with the Internal Revenue Service before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1963. Stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era, he served honorably for two years. His time in the military was a lasting source of pride throughout his life.
He ran two businesses, United Aluminum Products and Magic Window Systems, both located in Milford. His extensive work travels gave him a remarkable familiarity with every corner of the region, and he could give directions to just about anywhere. After retiring, he continued his lifelong spirit of service by volunteering with VNA Health Care Inc. and VITAS. In recognition of his dedication, he received The President's Volunteer Service Award in 2016 for his work with the VITAS Senior Companion Program.
He was a devoted father. He loved cheering on the Yankees with his daughter, whether at a game together or from his couch. Proud of his heritage, he traced his lineage to the Mayflower and was a member of the Pilgrim John Howland Society. Known for his sociable nature, humor, and broad knowledge, Harry enjoyed time spent with friends at the Wolcott and Waterbury Senior Centers and within his apartment complex, Countryside Apartments in Wolcott. He remained steadfast in his commitment to his health, making diet and exercise a priority in managing his diabetes.
Harry is survived by his daughter, Michele Henson, and her husband, Dan of Hillsborough, NJ. He also leaves his nieces, Ruth Hopkins, Nancy Pierpont, Joyce Williams, Helen Shaw, and Pam McFarren, and a nephew, Jim Millard. He was predeceased by his former wife, Grace (Angelicola) Lamphier, brother-in-law, Michael Angelicola, sister, Ruth Pierpont, and brother, Fred Millard.
His daughter would like to thank the dedicated individuals from The Nurse Network, State of Connecticut's Veterans Association, Connecticut Community Care, Saint Mary's ICU, and the VITAS Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to him.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 8:30am-10:30am, with a service beginning at 10:15am, at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury.
