Harry Alexander Larkins, known to many as Porky, was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and was born on June 8, 1950, to Virginia B. Larkins-Scott and Harry A. Smith. He received his educational foundation in the New Orleans Public School system. Harry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Zion Travelers Baptist Church #2 at an early age by the Rev. Joseph R. Leban of
New Orleans, La.
In 1968 Harry entered the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War, he was a Special Forces Weapons Specialist also known as a Gunnery Sergeant. After returning from war Harry was stationed at Fort Polk La. Until his discharge from service. On May 26, 1973, Harry married his childhood friend Deborah Fisher Larkins and from that union 2 daughters were born. Harry worked as a relocation specialist for over 40 years with his best friend Eric Jackson Sr., they traveled the world. On November 14, 2025, at approximately 9:53 a.m. with his loving family at his bedside our Heavenly Father dispatched an angel with instructions to rid his child of his aches and pains Harry hastily yet humbly, heeded the Master's call as he stepped aboard that chariot of eternal life.
Harry was the kind of man who showed up for everyone, he had a quiet strength, quick wit and gentle personality. To his family, he was more than a son, father or grandfather, he was a confidant, and trusted friend. He built a legacy not through accolades but the way he treated people. Harry never met a stranger and will always be remembered for his kind and loving generosity.
Harry leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Virginia B. Larkins Scott, his 3 daughters Debritta Larkins-Sims (Milton Jr.), Denitta Larkins-Mills (Walter Jr.) and Halle Larkins, a bonus daughter Takisha Sanders, 3 grandchildren, NeAsia Scipio, Milton Sims III, Clyde Mesley III, and 2 bonus grandchildren Nah'yel Jones & Alexis Williams. A devoted companion, Jolene Sanders. 3 cousins Don Coleman Sr., Kevin Williams Sr. and Arthur Williams Jr. 4 God Children Byran Martin Jr., Lloyd Robinson Sr. Edna Felder, and the late Donna Renae Fisher. 2 brothers-in- law Matthew Fisher Sr., And Soloman Fisher, 1 Sister-in-law JoAnn Bernstein. Harry was proceeded in death by his father Harry A. Smith, his son Ivory Simms, his grandparents Larry Sr. & Virginia Larkins, his uncle Larry Larkins Jr., his 2 aunts Delerita Coleman and Beverlyn Williams. Harry will be greatly missed by host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, pastors, officers and members of Zion Travelers Baptist Church #2 and Second Baptist Church 6th District, also employees of The Healthcare Centers, Quest Diagnostics, Performance Food Group, Cosentino of New Orleans, and PACE of Greater New Orleans are all invited to attend his Funeral Service at Empowerment Church, 3401 8th Street, Harvey, LA 70058 on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 10:00 am.
