Harry Earl Manship Jr. 84, of Kokomo passed away peacefully at home in the arms of Jesus after an extended illness with his family at his side at 12:28pm Wednesday, March 28, 2012. He was born April 20, 1927 in Sedalia, IN to the late Harry Earl and Effie Mae (Robertson) Manship Sr. On June 17, 1956 he married the former Constance E. Shirar who survives. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Kokomo, by Dr. John Newsom. Harry graduated from Russiaville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 with the Occupation Forces in Stuttgart, Germany. He attended Kokomo Business College and received a degree in Accounting in 1950. He was with Prudential Life Insurance for nine years and then Harry Manship Reality for several years before being employed by Delco for 21 ½ years. He was in the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Shrine Murot, Elks 190, Russiaville Masonic Blue Lodge, Kiwanis Club, Howard County Council, and the First Baptist Church of Kokomo. He played golf, enjoyed Cubs Baseball, Colts football, and I.U. Basketball. He loved playing pool and playing cards. He enjoyed cars, traveling with the family in the RV, camping in the Indiana campgrounds, and their trips to Florida and the West Coast. He loved watching John Wayne movies, and listening to Johnny Cash and Christian music and TV programs. Survivors include three sons; Gerald Thomas Manship, Kokomo, Harry Curtis Manship, wife Laura, Bristol, Richard Todd Manship, Indianapolis, two daughters; Janice Browning, husband Dan, San Antonio, TX, Brenda McBay, husband Dan of Indianapolis, three grandchildren; Patrick Browning, Chelsea and Kimmee McBay, along with several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Heathers, Pastor Paul Martin, Great Lakes Nurses and Hospice for their visits during his illness and calling of family and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and their wives, Leonard and Katheryn Manship, Robert and Jean Manship, George and Betty Robertson, a sister and her husband Mabel and Arnold Yager. Visitation will be from 4pm – 8pm Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster Street. Services will be at 1pm Monday, April 2, 2012 also at the Mortuary with Pastor John Walls officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. There will be full military rites by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo military rites teams at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, envelopes will be provided at the mortuary.
