Harry was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry A McLain, Sr and Mary McLain, his in-laws Floyd (Jim) and Ruth Courtright, his sisters, Emma Jean Jersey (Don) and Juanita Mann (Warren), son-in-law Albert Vieira, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Harry was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School class of 1958. He joined the Army after high school and continued his pledge in the Army Reserves. He graduated from Broome Tech and Elmira College where he obtained his degrees in mechanical engineering and mathematics. He worked at Kodak in Rochester, NY before starting his tenure at IBM where he was a distinguished mechanical engineer at multiple capacities including upper management. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and retired from IBM in 1994.
He was also the sole owner of MCLAINS SPORTING GOODS for 51 years where people would wait in line to ask the question that only he could answer. He was well-known and respected in the local community and, beyond, for his knowledge of all things guns, ammunition and laws. He was especially proud to support our local law enforcement. An avid outdoorsman, Harry lived for deer season “up on the land” and bear hunting trips to Saskatchewan. He loved knowing his grandsons have the same passion for the woods and hunting as he did.
