Haruo Onishi Obituary

Dr. Onishi had a distinguished career in academia, dedicating 32 years to Kyoto University and the University of Tsukuba. He was a prominent member of the International Statistics Institute, the International Association for Statistical Computing, the Tokyo Fulbright Association, and the Japanese Society of Computational Statistics, where he served as the journal's editor from 1981 onwards. His contributions extended beyond academia as he held the position of graduate school dean, acted as a consultant to various government ministries in Japan, and developed the statistical software OEPP.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Brace Onishi, and their two sons, Win Onishi and Kevin Onishi. He also leaves behind his three sisters, Hiroko, Sachiko, and Fusako. Dr. Onishi was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Masayoshi Onishi.
