oward,
J
r. was born April 14, 1933, in Austin, Texas to Harvey Wayne Howard, Sr. and Elmira Dallas-Howard. He received his formal education in Austin, Texas where he attended the original L. C. Anderson High School.
He was baptized at an early age. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S. A. Davis, and later joined Zion Rest Baptist Church.
Later he joined the military serving as a Corporal in the U. S. Army. Following his military service, he attended Shaw's Barber College in San Antonio, Texas, and received his Barber's License. In 1965, he moved his family to Saginaw, Michigan and worked at General Motors until 1972. Missing the family, he decided to move back home to be with his large extended family. Upon returning to Austin, he was employed with the Travis County Transportation Department where he retired after several years of dedicated service. He loved to spend time with his first love, Eva Lucille Smith-Howard (deceased) of 70 plus years, sitting in his favorite chair cracking pecans, going to car shows with his son, and most recently received a "Best in Show "trophy. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter going to Goodwill looking for special treasures. He also loved sharing time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
While serving as a Deacon at Zion Rest under the leadership of Pastor R. E. Foster, he was always concerned about what was best for the overall welfare of the Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Howard, Sr. and Elmira Dallas-Howard; Eva Lucille Howard (loving wife of 70+ years) brother: Herbert Howard; Sisters: Barbara Hardin and Nora Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory - son: Charles Howard, Sr. (Barbara); daughter: Wanda Atwood; sister: Rhonda Hodge (Bruce); and, sister-in-Law: Helen Clark.
Also cherishing and sharing his memory - Grandchildren: Charles Howard, Jr. (Sally), Charldrae Howard-Hall (Joseph), Richard Atwood, Jennifer Atwood Lewis (Laro); Great Grandchildren: Devin, Deacon, Bayley, Hailey, Trey, Carter, Avery, and Aubrey, Shay - Jay, and Joshua; special Cousins: Nel Robinson and James Howard (Grace); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
