Harvey Krasner Obituary
Harvey passed away peacefully in his home on May 1st surrounded by the comfort and love of his family. Born in Brooklyn, NY October 12, 1924, Harvey moved to Los Angeles in1933 with his mother Lena and sister Rita following the premature death of his father David. He attended Virgil Jr. High and LA High during which time he became an avid beach volleyball player. After the US entered WWII he joined the army and became a bow gunner aboard an M4 Sherman Tank in the highly decorated 756th Tank Battalion. He saw combat in France and at the Battle of the Bulge, later joining the troops liberating Dachau. On May 4th, as the War was ending, his 3rd Division unit was the first in the race to reach and seize Berchtesgaden (Hitler's Eagle's Nest). Harvey received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star medal for his bravery and valor. After the war, he attended UCLA, married Yvette Chiat and eventually started his own company as a successful manufacturer's representative. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last but it did yield two beautiful daughters Jill and Dru. During the 1950's he also joined the Jewish War Veteran's of the USA and has been an active member and top charity fundraiser ever since. He retired early and, with his love Shar, moved from Santa Monica to Rancho Mirage where they enjoyed tennis, golf and an active social life. He was an excellent dancer and always in demand at parties. Eventually they moved to Camarillo to be closer to family. Along with Shar, Harvey is survived by his loving daughter Dru (Steve), granddaughters Carly Ann (Casey) and Kyla Jo. Sadly his daughter Jill (Jimmy) passed away in 2017 leaving two more grandchildren Max (Hannah) and Laine. He was also loved by Shar's three children Bret (Dana), Steve (Jane) and Kristy (Allen), eight additional grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves a devoted sister Rita and her children Jonathan (Pam) and Jennifer (Andy). Donations may be made in Harvey's name to JWV Post 603, 22048 Sherman Way Suite #107, Canoga Park, CA 91303. Inquires can be made to CMDR Earl Roth (818) 486-1259. Date for celebration of life pending.
