Harvey Glenn "Shorty" Mitschke

Funeral services for Harvey "Shorty" Mitschke, 65 of Lincoln, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Harvey Glenn "Shorty" Mitschke passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, while at the hospital in Bryan, Texas. Born on October 4, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to Herbert Ernst and Bertha Marie (Urban) Mitschke. Shorty was baptized at Messiah Lutheran Church in Houston. When he was in the eighth grade, the family relocated from Houston to Lincoln, Texas, and he was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. His confirmation verse was Psalm 23:1.

Shorty spent his working years in the drywall business, and life with him was anything but dull. He greeted everyone he met with genuine excitement and warmth. He found joy in the simplest things like fishing, hunting, making deer sausage, building bonfires for football rivalries, sharing meals with family and friends, and taking rides through the countryside.

Shorty is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by siblings Herbert and Yvonne (Boriack) Mitschke and Sandra (Mitschke) and Carl Exner. He is remembered fondly by nieces and nephews who cherished times with him while growing up in and around Lincoln. This includes Candace (Exner) and Nathan Schimank, Jessica (Mitschke) and Chris Mueller, Craig and Cheree (Muzny) Exner, Amy (Mitschke) Meurin, Keith and Heidi (Weiser) Exner, Casi (Mitschke) and Will Jones, Kurt and Khatia (Markhvaidze) Mitschke. Shorty enjoyed being a part of the lives of his great nieces and nephews too, Tyler Robertson, Madison Jones, Blaine Mueller, Wyatt Jones, Clay Schimank, Baylen Exner, Colt Schimank, Kellan Exner, Kyndal Meurin and Daeghyn Exner. Shorty is also survived by lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Schimank, Craig Exner, Keith Exner, Chris Mueller, Will Jones, Kurt Mitschke, and Tyler Robertson. Additional honorary pallbearers include Shorty's nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
