In stats grad school at Berkeley from 1969-72, I took Haskell's courses in Linear Spaces and Operators, by far the best courses I have ever had. He also served on my committee and profoundly influenced me. God bless.

Haskell Rosenthal was one of the most influential researchers in Functional Analysis. The community of researchers in Banach Space Theory mourn the loss of one of its founding fathers.
I had the privilege to be one of Haskell's students. He was a great teacher and a mentor. I still remember the hours we spent together in his office in UT Austin explaining to me many aspects of Banach Space Theory and introducing me to research. His tremendous help continued to be offered for many years after my graduation. The last time I saw him was in a conference in Canada, ten years ago. He was still active and eager to propose new research projects.
I am certain that Haskell will become immortal through his theorems and will be remembered by future generations as a great mathematician.
I offer my sincere condolences to his family.
