Hattie Gettys Terry

Hattie Gettys Terry, age 81, of Ellenboro, NC, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Atrium Health-Cleveland in Shelby. Hattie was born February 28, 1937 in Rutherford County to the late Zack Gettys and Berdie Smith Gettys. She was the oldest living member of Piney Mountain Baptist Church. Hattie was the epitome of a homemaker. She cared for her family in so many ways and was a "Proverbs Thirty-One" lady. Hattie's time was spent gardening, canning, reading her Bible, listening to southern gospel music, cleaning her house and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed working puzzles and watching old time westerns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, David Allen Eugene Terry; an infant son, Junior Terry and daughter, Shirley Wood; two sisters, Mary Gold Gettys and Ruby Ledford and a brother, Zack Gettys. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Carolyn McDaniel (Gordon) of Ellenboro, Mary Callahan of Mooresboro and Elizabeth Terry of Ellenboro; son, Eugene Terry also of Ellenboro; sister, Christine Self of Henrietta and brother, Roy Gettys of Bostic. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Piney Mountain Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Padgett, Reverend Neil Murray and Reverend Allen Terry officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
