Hazel Bell Obituary

Published by Westside Chapel Funeral Home on Sep. 7, 2016.
Hazel Cox Bell went to be with the Lord Jesus and her husband, Prather Bell, Jr. on the morning of Sept. 5, 2016. Originally from Greene County, Hazel worked as a full-fashioned hosery seamstress in her early years. She met the love of her life through letter writing during World War II. After the war, they married and moved to Grenada, Ms. where she and Mr. Prather lived for 63 years. Mrs. Bell's passion was cooking. She had always wanted to be a pastry chef, but instead became a homemaker and cooked for her husband and friends as long as she was able.

Mrs. Bell loved her church, First Baptist in Grenada, where for many years she taught a primary girl's sunday school class. She and her husband were also avid seamsters, making many of her clothes. Mrs. Bell even won prizes by entering some of her garments in the Fair and Home Demonstration Club contests. After Mr. Prather's passing in 2009, Hazel moved to Morristown where her nephew, Tom (Paula) Cox and niece, Alice Pierce cared for her until she went to join her husband in heaven.

Mrs. Bell is survived by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lee (Jackie) Cox of Mosheim and Mrs. James (Jo) Cox of Sycamore, Il.; brother-in-law, Clarence Cogdell of Greeneville; a host of nieces and nephews; and with many special friends, including the Cravens family from Grenada, Ms.

The family would like to thank Lois and Arlene of Regency Retirement Center and Jane and Coleen of Heritage Nursing Center for being special friends and for loving and caring for her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bell will be held in Grenada, Ms. with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Baptist Church in Grenada, Ms. or the charity of your choice.
