Funeral service for Hazel Fortenberry Davis, 86, of Piedmont will be Saturday, November 01, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Pastor Joey Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. Mrs. Davis passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Ray Davis; daughter, Tressa Atkins of Cedartown. Georgia; son, Bobby Davis (Beverly) of Piedmont; nine grandchildren, Jason Thomas Bragg, Shane Maddox, Dewayne Maddox, Christy Maddox, Madison Atkins, Lily Jane Atkins, Kayla Shell, Miranda Poole, and Hunter Poole; several great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Adams of Villa Rica, Georgia; sister-in-law, Judy Fortenberry of Piedmont; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bobby Davis, Michael Shell, Hunter Poole, Bryce Legg, Shane Maddox, Logan Cauthen, Dillon Maddox, and Dewayne Maddox. Hazel was a longtime resident of Piedmont and a devout Christian. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a kindness and love about her that made each of the family feel special. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having all the family together. She loved to decorate with red birds and roosters. Hazel's favorite Bible verse was "Palms 23", The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me, Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Hazel was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Maddox; great-grandsons, Gage Mayhall and Bailyn Poole; parents, Charlie and Ruth Fortenberry; sisters, Betty Fortenberry, Annie Mae Ford, Irene Chandler, and Dorothy "Dot" Pruitt; brothers, Hubert Fortenberry, Ed Fortenberry, Eugene Fortenberry and Jimmy Fortenberry; and her sister in Christ, Bobbie Jean McCoy. The family would like to offer a special "Thank You" to Southern Care New Beacon Hospice and to family members Miranda and Miraeha for the love and kindness they gave to Hazel throughout her sickness.
