Our dear mother Hazel Watson Palmer left us for a reunion with her husband and parents on February 27, 2026 at home surrounded by her six kids.
Born on August 8, 1945, she was the 4th of six kids to Glenn and Ivy Watson. The other 5 kids being boys, she loved doing anything but being inside. She grew up near Liberty Park in Salt Lake and graduated from South High School. Her Father died while in High School, something that affected her outlook on life.
She met her future husband Grant Ross Palmer on a blind date. A farmer from South Jordan, he loved the fact that she loved being outdoors and willing to do whatever it takes. Mom always said that Grant married her for being a tomboy. I think he married her because she was beautiful, loving, and for her zest for life. Grant wanted to go steady on the second date, but my mom refused saying I don’t even know you. Grant never asked again, but at a cousin’s wedding, she introduced him as her fiancé. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on Friday, May 13, 1966, and they moved to South Jordan, Utah where she would remain for the rest of her life. They moved three times during their married life, building their dream home and moving in March 1970. She would remain in that house until she passed away in the front room.
Hazel and Grant would have six children. Leland, Tim (Shelly), Tamra (Chris), Teresa (Kirk), Ryan and Spencer (Missy). They were raised at Ross Palmer’s dairy farm, baseball fields and school activities. Church was very important to Hazel, and she loved going and serving her savior. She spent years after Grant passed away at the Jordan River Temple on Wednesday and Thursday.
She was preceded in death by her husband Grant, parents Glenn and Ivy, and brother Gordon. Survived by all her kids, 16 Grandkids and 11 Great Grandkids, Brothers Harley, Lester, Lorin and Allen.
We very much love and appreciate Polohiva Finau for the years of service that she helped with our mother and the friendship she showed her.
Her viewing will be at the LDS Chapel at 10200 So and 3200 West from 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday, March 6th.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 7th at the same place with a viewing starting at 10:00 am with the services starting at 11:00 am.
