Hazel Topsale Walker, 97 of Blacksburg, formerly of Narrows, passed away Thursday, November 29th, 2012 at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg. She was born in Narrows on May 6th, 1915 and was the daughter of the late Mr. James and Mrs. Lucy Enders Topsale. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Hubert Lee Walker, Sr.; five brothers Archie Topsale, Roy Topsale, James Everett Topsale, Bernard Topsale, Dolphin Topsale; and two sisters Ercell Pate and Beatrice Boyd. Hazel graduated from Christiansburg Institute, attended Bluefield State Teacher's College, and retired from Appalachian Power Company where she served as an accountant in the Pearisburg office. She was a member of the Virginia Tech Faculty Woman's Club, University Club, and a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. A loving wife and mother who loved to cook and entertain, Hazel also loved flowers, decorating and music. Left to cherish her memory are a son, Hubert Lee Walker, Jr. of Blacksburg; a sister-in-law, Lila Hicks of Roanoke; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends, including Paul and Carol Johnson, and neighbor Marylou. She also dearly loved her canine companion, Bentley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8th, 2012 at 2 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church in Church in Christiansburg with Rev. George M. Warner, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Asbury United Methodist Church Saturday from 12 noon until just prior to the service. Hubert,
Hazel was a wonderful woman, her grace, kindness,courage and generosity are what I remember most about her. You were all she hoped for in a son, take comfort in that.
She lived to see many changes and she impacted how I view the world. I did not see her much when I grew up but I always remember her with love.
