Hearl C. "Snuffy" Mongold

Hearl C. "Snuffy" Mongold, 85, of Mathias, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

Born January 9, 1940 in Hardy Co., WV, he was the son of the late Dailey Mongold and Geneva (Shook) Mongold.

He married Emma L. Snyder on June 3, 1960 whom preceded him in death just 3 months ago on August 19, 2025. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage.

Surviving are their children, Harold "JR" Mongold of Mathias, WV, Victoria "Vicky" Combs, of Mathias, WV, Linda Lafollette (Bobby) of Yellow Springs, WV, William "Billy" Mongold (Crystal) of Mathias, WV, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers, Ivan, David, Edward, Jim and Robert Mongold, 5 sisters, Judy Flick, Helen Whetzel, Gloria Price, Joyce Barb and Diana Miller along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Olive Miller.

Snuffy started driving a truck at the age of 16 and continued for 43 years, retiring from Valley Protein. After retirement, you could guarantee on finding him hanging around Billys Auto Repair, catching up with old friends (and new) and keeping the woodstove going. Over the years, Alzheimers took a lot of his memories and his ability to do everyday things but his family was blessed to be able to keep him at home and know he was well cared for. No matter how much memory he lost, he never lost his love or memories of his wife Emma.

He enjoyed going to church, working in his gardens, woodworking and gatherings with his family. He was always smiling and never met a stranger. He loved reminiscing and talking about his parents, siblings and childhood memories. His family never tired of his stories.

The family plans to have a Memorial service at a later date for both Emma and Hearl.
