Heather Lynne Demuro

Heather Lynne Hancock Demuro, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Heather was born on April 7, 1970, in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

A dedicated BSN Registered Nurse, Heather devoted more than 30 years to nursing, serving during her career with Sentara Medical Healthcare System and Bon Secours Healthcare. She touched countless lives through her compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment to patient care. Her exemplary service earned her numerous honors, including the prestigious Nurse of the Year award.

Heather's passion for nursing extended beyond the bedside. She was a mentor and role model to many nurses she trained, several of whom have gone on to flourish in the medical field. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and excellence continues to influence the healthcare community.

Prior to her nursing career, Heather honorably served her country as a member of the United States Air Force during Desert Storm, exemplifying courage, resilience, and selfless service.

When not caring for others, Heather embraced life with joy and warmth. She loved playing games and trivia, spending relaxing days by the pool with a good book, and surrounding herself with music. Karaoke was a favorite pastime, and she could often be heard singing, a reflection of her lively personality and love of fun. Heather had a deep love for animals and volunteered her time at the Virginia Beach Animal Shelter. Above all, she cherished creating memories with her daughters, delighting in family vacations and cruises filled with laughter and adventure.

Heather was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents. She leaves behind a loving family, including her three cherished daughters, Lauren, Sydney, and Becca; her devoted parents, Ronald and Lynda Hancock; and her former spouse and father of her children, Michael Demuro. She is also survived by her sister, Wendy Rush, her husband, Travis, and their daughter, Sarah; and her brother, Carl Hancock, his wife, Kalah, and their two sons. Heather's memory will also be treasured by extended family across the United States, Scotland, and Australia, as well as by the many friends and coworkers who were fortunate to know her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the care team at Deep Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center, Bristol Hospice, and the compassionate staff at Virginia Beach General Hospital for their professionalism, kindness, and exceptional care.

A private family service will be held to honor Heather's life, with a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Altmeyer Funeral Home and Cremations, Southside Chapel, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. Heather will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
